Kitchen Before & After

So after almost a month of no cooking (no salsa) and staying up all hours of the night every day designing and assembling; our kitchen is in the last stage of completition. We removed a wall that seperated the kitchen and the living room to give us that open light feel. We made a new design using the IKEA online design program. We ripped out everything and started from scratch. Our biggest challenge was making a new modern kitchen with as low as budget as we could do and I think we have accomplished our goal. This has been very tiring but worth the labor. Scroll down for the progression.....

Let us know what you think, we would love to hear all your comments......

Kitchen Remodel

Here is an update from the last post we had taken down a wall in the kitchen to open it up. Well we have moved past that and are now starting the floor. We also decided like crazy people we are to replace the cabinets along the wall where the sink was, they had no more life left to use in them. Here is our latest mess!!!

Thanksgiving

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

White to Black

This island we bought off of craigslist, it was in pretty good shape. I repainted it black, bought new hinges and handles and it looks brand new.

A Wall down opens for a new beginning.....

Well at the end of the day Ray had completely taken the whole wall down to its bare bones and let me tell you it looks great even without any finishing touches. We are still mapping out where we will put the stove the was on the wall we took down. We are thinking to put an island where the wall used to be, any thoughts?

Here is our progress...

Easy Cabinet Upgrade

If you have old style cabinets that are flat or you just dont like the detail on them, I found a great easy way to give them a new look. Check out the pictures and instructions below. I will be doing this to our cabinets soon to give them a new look. I will be sanding all the old paint, applying this new detail then repainting our cabinets for a fresh new look with a very low budget.
  1. Cut ¼" thick plywood into smaller panels that will fit on the cabinet fronts.
  2. Make sure they are large enough to cover any existing grooves.
  3. Apply adhesive to the panel and center it on the door.
  4. Miter cut the moulding to fit around the panels, similar to a picture frame.
  5. Glue the four moulding pieces in place.
  6. Apply a thin layer of caulk where needed.
  7.   Typically, you might need caulk in the joints between the plywood and moulding, and the moulding and door front.
  8. Allow the caulk to dry.
Now time to pick your paint and just paint!!

Budget Jars

Starting this month Ray and I are really focusing on our budget. One of our problems is that with the debit card we spend so much without knowing so we have decided to make Budget Jars for specific items. These jars we will put a set amount of money in each month and we can only spend what is in that jar. If we have leftover money it will just be added to the money we add for next month. I purchased these cute little jars at the dollar store for only $1 and some cute stickers from Michaels.

An update on our next projects. As you can see we have been travelling so we put our projects on hold for a few weeks. I am in the process of picking paint colors to redo our kitchen cabinets in. We are planning on taking down half the wall in our kitchen to open it up to the living room and Ray has a big project of putting up some type of privacy fence in our backyard to keep the neighbors from seeing in our house :)

Have a great week! Thanks for visiting, I will be posting up new things soon!

Poland Design

This weekend I will be travelling to Poland and Prague with my wonderful boyfriend Ray. I am going to take some wonderful scenery pictures to use in a picture hanging project for our home. I am sure that they will have some great things to take pictures of in these countries. I am also going to look for some items to put in our house. Check back in two weeks to see the pictures that we took and the items that I bought.
Situated in Warsaw, Poland, this modern house is characterized by unique and minimalist style. This modern black house can transform into a bunker with no windows and doors. All the windows and doors can be perfectly covered with black shelter. But, the house is actually a modern luxury home that can is completed with a large indoor pool; garage and large glazing to allow natural light fill in the whole interior. The dramatic change can do done instantly and create a fantastic modern house with feeling of space and bright. Minimalist and modernism is not only presented in the exterior but also the interior as well. Besides, this house is also opened to the beautiful views of the surrounding environment.

Tile Tattoos

As always I love to look at the design websites every day to see if I can get any great ideas to update our home with. I found these great Tile Tattoos. I will put a link to the website because they have all kinds of designs and colors. I think I will put these in our kitchen on the backsplash.
